(1) Note that KJV 'tabernacle' is used for both Hebrew terms 'sukkoth' (booth, tent), as well as for 'mishkan' in the OT/Tanach referring to the ark of the covenant (Acts 7:4). Greek does not make this distinction. NIV 'tent' (Heb. 'sukkoth') indicates that the metaphor in Amos is a promise to restore the royal lineage or the Kingdom of David and thus to include the Gentiles in God's kingdom. Can this passage be used in support of the restoration of worship in the end times? Randall Price, 1999, "James' argument apparently was adapted from the Septuagint text of Amos 9:11-12, which contains variants from the Masoretic Hebrew text that may have influenced James' selection of this prophecy concerning the Gentiles' eschatological worship in a restored sanctuary." Footnote: "This admittedly is a complex interpretative matter; however, James is using the Amos passage not to demonstrate present fulfillment, but to show that a Gentile inclusion was predicted in God's program for Israel, and that "after these things" (V. 16a), i.e. after the present witness to the Gentiles, the program for Israel would be fulfilled..."
